Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important representative said the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
